TIL Stanley Kubrick was supposed to give Malcolm McDowell 2.5% of the profit from A Clockwork Orange, but never told McDowell about the arrangement and never gave him the money.

A Clockwork Orange is a disturbing piece of art but a great film nonetheless

Last time i said I was either going to watch a clockwork orange or the shining and decided to watch this as my next Kubrick film

Right off the bat this film is extremely violent and disturbing that the average viewer might be turned off so this isn’t the type of film everyone would enjoy. That being said it was great

The directing is very different from Kubrick previous sci fi film 2001 a lot of the shots are very distorted and symmetrical with a lots of pov shots thrown in the mix it creates a very distorted surreal atmosphere in a dystopian futuristic Britain

The plot was much more easier to follow than 2001 and the whole themes and messages were pretty clear from the get go. The first half of the film shows Alex’s crimes against humanity while the other half shows his suffering and “redemption” to fit back in to society. There was lots of disturbing imagery for example that scene where he was being dunked headfirst in the water by his droogs and the whole Beethoven ninth symphony sequence was really something.

As for the acting Malcolm McDowell gives a great performance as the sadistic Alex Delarge and everyone else in the film also did great as well

But overall, I thought it was a fantastic film the themes of violence and brutality still hold up til this day but it’s not the easy type of film to enjoy if your not into this type of stuff.
