Modern problems need modern solutions

IDK, this seems much better than leaving a 36 pound box right up against the door! Even then all I had to do is go out the side door, walk through 12” of snow to the cleared walkway, walk to the porch and move said box so I could go back through the snow and in the side door, because I forgot to unlock the front door!

dont be silly, that's a complete waste of public resources

you call the non-emergency line to report a burglary, and when they arrive you ask them to grab your coffee before letting them in, and then you tell them nvm

So you'll get your coffee in 3-6 business days

"File an online report.

If there was any signs of damage or forced entry a member will attend"

I called one of the non-emergency numbers (not the general 311 number but an actual number my county has for reporting traffic violations that are not a danger to anyone) for like fifty cars parked on the street (with no parking at any time) leading to the highway.

This was like at like 10 in the morning and they didn't send someone out to check (I had a request number that I could look up) for like 15 hours.

Obviously they were all gone 15 hours later, what's that department even for then? Only static issues that never move or change?

Or those that happen reliably I guess, like 311 for your loud and drunk neighbor at 2 am every night like clockwork.

my previous roommate used to order food all the time. he put "don't knock" on the orders, but they wouldn't always listen... some lady seemed to think that meant "knock softly". but the reason he said that is because when someone knocks, someone is going to go get the door whether it's him or not... and half the time there was just a drink in front of the door, and whoever was getting the door didn't think to check for food/drinks so it would just spill. real fun.

This will soon become a secondary subscription service called “meal movers.” You call them when Door Dash traps you in your home like this. Lots of Dashers will also be Meal Movers so the same dude who did this just comes back to your house and moves it.

Actually, it's:

  1. Be dasher and meal mover.

  2. Accept delivery order, deliver.

  3. Intentionally place food in "trapped" location.

  4. Accept meal mover order, move order to new, "trapped" location.

  5. Repeat until they cancel, and you eat the food in front of them.

Also, not everyone has the same 24 hours in the day; Poorer people have less free time away from work & commuting, so don’t said have time or energy to cook but still want a nice meal. Even many middle class people, students, & so on may not always have time & energy to cook all of their meals.

Do you think having to remove a screen off a door to avoid spilling a drink ISN’T mildly infuriating? Man, some people on here hate delivery companies so much that anyone who uses them and then has the audacity to complain about bad service is somehow both wrong and an idiot. It’s crazy. “Simply climb out a window or remove a part of your door” is a ridiculous expectation for someone who just wanted food delivered in a normal way.

More replies

Nope.

More replies
More replies

I'm confident you were forced to tip them in advance of receiving your order?

This is exactly the level of incompetency that warrants a $0.00 tip. If possible, go back into the app and remove the tip.

This honestly seems intentional to me rather than out of incompetence. If both the drink and food were set on the ground I’d say it was incompetence, but putting the drink on the step above the food seems like it was on purpose.

Never attribute to make what can be attributed to incompetence

I don’t usually attribute things to make

You’re right, and I’m not saying it was for sure intentional, but just my gut feeling. I have seen comments on the DoorDash Reddit from drivers saying they do this when someone doesn’t tip so it is definitely in the realm of possibility.

I'll die on this hill: people who do this are absolute utter assholes who shouldn't be allowed to deliver anything ever again.

We literally have a table with a sign that says “Please leave deliveries here” that they had to walk past to leave the food where they did. 🤣

What i've learned from humanity is that most people don't fucking read anything 🤷‍♀️

A place I worked at opened at 9am each day. But very occasionally we had to open at 10am, this was if there was a delivery overnight and it was against health and safety to let customers in (charity store, delivery driver bringing furniture he'd agreed to collect late at night and so nobody was in the store until 9am).

We would put a big sign on the door that said "Open at 10am"

Routinely people would be banging on the door and shaking it, and then trying to shout at us to let them in, while looking AROUND the sign. I'd end up walking up to the door, and having to hold them back while pointing at the sign and saying they can't get in for another half an hour. They would then complain it wasn't clear enough.

Yeah, sounds like people unfortunately

I second everything you said. A thousand separate signs telling you what the sale in the store is? Hmmm, I think I'll ask anyway

They pay the least amount of attention to their surroundings as possible

I once worked in a ice cream shop for a summer. There were three occasions that the power went out and all the ice cream in the main freezer melted in a puddle. That left us with just the big three in the back up freezer: vanilla chocolate and strawberry. We would put large signs on the door and the freezer that said - freezer broken limited flavors, and then…

“Where’s all the ice cream???” “Are you closed?” “Cookies and cream double scoop with sprinkles”

Some people literally do not read the words that cross their field of view and it baffles me.

u/JewPhone_WhoDis avatar

I’ve concluded that most of the drivers don’t know how to read or else they would know where to put my orders since it’s in the instructions in the app. 90% of the time, it’s in front of my outward opening door. I order DoorDash way less now.

A decent number of dashers in my area legitimately don't speak english, so putting out signs may not work

More replies
More replies

IK this is gonna blow your mind but this is called the “no tip special”

More replies

Not always. Sometimes people are just dense and quickly deliver it and move on, without thinking.

There are three types of assholes: people who actively put themselves first, people who just like the thought of inconveniencing others, and people who simply cannot comprehend that others exist/have needs and wants.

Hanlon’s Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be attributed to ignorance.

Why do so many comments here assume that everyone has a back door? My last townhouse only had the one front entrance and no back yard (neighbours backed on to our unit). I also have this same issue sometimes. Our front door has two doors. The main, and the glass door. If you know how doors work, they both can't open the same direction. The main door opens into the home, while the glass one opens out. Often times get food delivered right in front of the door, and it pisses me off. We have a bench to the side of the door, and I put instructions to leave the food bag there, instead of in front of the door. Most of the time it's fine, but some don't read the instructions. If I catch them quick enough, I tell them to move it and ask them if they know how doors work, and "did you read the note I left?". They're like, "oh sorry!"
