The Celtics built this team in 2 years (White, Jrue, Kristaps) to surround their best two players. The Heat have had *FIVE* years of Jimmy & Bam in that very same era and have failed to put a surrounding cast to give them a realistic shot at a championship. I’m sick.

Based off our history of drafting and also development, it feels like we generally go for guys that can shoot, knowing that we can develop their defence. Shooting is something that’s much harder to develop if you don’t have it by the time you’re a draft prospect.

Examples:

  • Tyler

  • Jovic

  • Jacquez

  • if Winslow didn’t fall it was gonna be Booker

  • Napier

  • Beasley

Then noting key guys with subpar defence they brought in and developed some levels of defence:

  • Max

  • Gabe

  • Duncan

  • tried with Bryant

  • Kelly O

  • Meyers

  • Dragic

I know you can say there’s also Bam and Precious, but overall it feels like they trust their development for defence over developing someone into a shooter.

In saying that, the offensively minded players in our 1st round range in the draft this year would be:

  • Jared McCain

  • Edey

  • Holland

  • Collier

Then I think they could take a defensive minded guard with our 2RP, like Shead.

Interested in what others think in terms of priority. Leaning offence or defence? If so who?

P.s I’d love Carter because he looks like he’d fit our culture and system but his stock has risen so much recently, and given he’s also got a draft promise, it’s likely he doesn’t fall to us.

Nikola Jovic on his next steps of growth “There’s not one thing I can focus on…from shooting to, dribbling, passing, basically everything. I feel like there’s so much room and space where I can improve, and I feel like I’ll show it at least a little more next season.”
