We took their manager and they took our place in the Premier League. Fair enough.

Fuck Nathan Jones

Our biggest rivals didn’t want their manager so we let him take us up.

Can we please not forget to laugh at Watford FC, who hired Rob Edwards, sacked him after 10 games, then they finished mid table while he went to go manage their closest rivals and got them promoted to the top flight for the first time in 30 years

u/OhShitItsSeth avatar

I remember when I thought Watford were a well-run club. They had Javi Gracia for a full season who led them to an FA Cup final (they lost it 6-0 to Man City). Since then they’ve just had a revolving door of various managers.

u/SuperIntegration avatar

I know this isn't about us, but dang every time this run gets mentioned the memory of that semi-final haunts me for the rest of the day

Nobody is forgetting, we've been bantered mercilessly this season... Not saying we don't deserve it mind

u/Gooner_KC avatar

I wonder what FGR would have done this season had Edwards stayed. Earned them promotion and the League 2 title, awarded League 2 manager of the season, and like 2 weeks later he's announced as Watford's manager, supposedly entering negotiations/talks with Watford without FGR knowing. FGR hired Ian Burchnall who was sacked after winning only 11 in 37 matches. Duncan Ferguson then got hired and he won only 1 in 18 matches, FGR finished the season dead last, with only 27 points to show for the entire campaign. The other teams that got promoted with them all had about at least twice as many points.

I believe they just need to upgrade to allow for VAR cameras, currently.

[deleted]
[deleted]

They can just say they upgraded it, isn't like any ref actually uses it properly in the PL

Just replay similar-looking plays from games earlier in the season on the monitor and hope the ref doesn't notice.

more replies More replies
u/goodmobileyes avatar

Ref walks over to the VAR monitor and it's just a crayon drawing pasted to a box. Somehow gives a more accurate decision than actual VAR.

u/RIVA_LAS_VEGAS avatar

Kinda, they need a whole new install for SMPTE, in about 16 places, which is what new cameras run off, they need a proper gantry for a variety of broadcasters, there's a lot of work that needs doing, it's not just a simple fix

The stadium is basically in the middle of a neighbourhood as well. No massive car parks or anything just a stadium truly built for the area rather than being something artifical

u/Randy_The_Guppy avatar

Not sure bur imagine the houses were built after the stadium. Luton is basically 5 miles by 5 miles in size. Everywhere is housing. They do have a new stadium proposed by the railway station but that's been talked about for years.

Fair play to Rob Edwards - League 2 to the Prem in a year. I'd say Watford must be feeling pretty silly right now, but I don't think they'll ever learn!

On the 2nd May 2009, Luton played their last game in the EFL, losing 2-0 to Brentford at Griffin Park. Brentford would go up as champions that year, whilst Luton entered the Conference, where they'd stay for 5 seasons.

Next season, they are both Premier League teams

Congrats to Luton

Honestly i wouldnt be suprised to see them take a few bigs wins and stay up for at least one year.

People will say about lacking PL quailty but they could just do a Forest and buy 30 players.

Now hopefully that gets the ET+Pen drama out of way for playoffs and rest will be stress free right

They're going to have to spend on the stadium first though.

£10m to get it to PL standard. Nothing in comparison to the money they'll earn for getting there

While they will undoubtedly make a bunch of money next year, 10 million is still a decent portion of their actual promotion winnings that are typically spent on upgrading the squad.

In 2007, on the way back from a League Cup match at Dagenham and Redbridge during the first season of our tumble down the Football League, my best mate made me a £5 bet that Luton would be in the Prem by 2012. He wasn't totally wrong, it just happened to be the National League Premier, but even then he believed it would happen in his lifetime. Turns out that wasn't quite long enough, but he did live to see us survive our first season back in the Championship.

Its amazing that we did this 'in 9 years', but fuck me 9 years wasn't fast enough.

Was mascot for Bristol City at Kenilworth Road. Can confirm: it’s tiny. Tunnel had a very low ceiling to it, so much that their sub keeper (Tony Feuer, all 6ft 7 of him) practically had to crawl along to avoid decapitation.

The away end is even better-seats bolted onto the old terrace, and so close together you risk slicing your knee caps off when jumping up in celebration 😂

Add in the infamous toilets inside a house and you’ve got a fucking awesome ground. If you can get a ticket then get there before they move.
