Someone tell me who this is so I can be excited!

Edit: from the press release:

The partnership is intended to introduce more GameStop customers to FTX’s community and its marketplaces for digital assets. In addition to collaborating with FTX on new ecommerce and online marketing initiatives, GameStop will begin carrying FTX gift cards in select stores.

During the term of the partnership, GameStop will be FTX’s preferred retail partner in the United States.

Edited

They are the official crypto exchange of MLB I can tell you that much. Their logos are all over every MLB broadcast, on umpire's uniforms, commercials, etc...

Edit: guess who else is partnered with FTX? IEX

Edited

They just hired the former VP of Warner Bros gaming after he left that job right after they released a DC universe NFT/Physical card hybrid CCG, akin to Finestone leaving Loopring and joining GameStop. I believe they are going heavy into NFT gaming and using DC as one of the big IP’s.

Btw they’re a crypto exchange and GameStop will sell ftx gift cards now. No more bank declining payments for crypto or your state not supporting, just go cash -> crypto with ftx gift cards at GameStop

—> The on ramp for the mainstream. You nailed it.

They're copying how Roblox incentivized gaming spending with Robux giftcards, it gives kids something they can ask for a present in a way that parents/grandparents can understand to deliver it. Brilliant.

Quick edit: I'm well aware that Roblox is not the first gaming company to do this, they are just the immediate one that came to my mind. I've spent a fortune on LoL giftcards for Riotpoints.

FTX has their hands in everything, FTX arena - Miami heat and multiple eSports teams. They're definitely advertising heavily in areas that crypto has already got a toe in (gambling, internet/games, NBA has lots of crypto involvement eg. Mavs/Voyager).

I believe they also handle some securities trading on their app? I haven't used them much but they are trying to be an exchange for more than just crypto last I knew.

If GameStop is partnering with FTX who already tokenizes stocks and has their hands in everything, how do they work together without stepping on each other's toes?

FTX also has their hands on Robbing the hood?

On May 12, 2022, it was revealed that Emergent Fidelity Technologies Ltd., which is majority owned by Bankman-Fried, had bought 7.6% of Robbinghood Markets Inc. stock.[18][19]

What is FTX ?

Edited

It is a crypto exchange with stock trading launching in October. Its primary investors are Sequoia Capital and Citadel Securities.

Here is my DD I posted last quarter.

Edit: Correction. FTX Stocks is already live. Citadel has plans for PFOF-free market making of crypto and securities OTC in October/by EOY.

u/Stonksgouplol avatar

Ahead of the curve I see😉... Your post is about to blow up

And imagine how easy on ramp off ramp could be made with ftx.

Also imagine how ftx can facilitate layer swaps and make it as easy as possible to fund GameStop wallets.

And whatever they are planning together.

Also, have loopring or eth on layer2? Don't even need to convert it to USD to buy at the GameStop stores 💕 use the card

We need an FTX DD. This did not make sense to me.

I dont think GS cares too much about on/off are, because the thought will be to just transfer your crypto to the LRC wallet to "be your own bank". Myself and many others like me, won't be using banks after moass, or atleast very infrequently. Why let the banks win if you can buy most things using crypto 🤷‍♂️

Well, that’s a twist I didn’t see coming. Citadel now has a vested interest in GameStop succeeding.

edit - keep in mind one of the more popular theories around here is a complete re-do of the entire system. <TFH>What if Shitadel is poising to nuke the old system, pay us out, AND be the first big bad player in the new system, making up for their losses many times over - even after MOASS?</TFH>

Would Citadel have known that FTX was making this partnership? Or did Kenny just wake up and go wtf?

More replies
u/defaultuser012 avatar

I’m confused about this partnership

Could be that Citadel saw the writing on the wall and bought and/or bullied their way into a partnership with FTX so that they stay relevant and, they hope, remain in a position of power.

They dump their shit on pension funds. Cap the max price of gme. Then go long on the future. I think

Looking forward to your updated FTX DD now

So what about those primary investors? Seems a bit odd doesnt it?

u/mattypag2 avatar

So how is this good? Sequoia and citadel are big investors? Is this a loophole for them to escape? Are they not actually enemies? Have they turned on DTC and the he Fed? I don’t get this at all.

Seriously , someone explain

Me again. While today's announcement shocked me. It makes sense. It validates GameStop as ahead of the curve for the future of web3 gaming.

FTX US is not Kenny's company. They and Sequoia have partnered with Paradigm, who happens to be one of the biggest Series A investors (the partnership with Paradigm was announced pretty much at the same time). The big players (Kenny ain't stupid) are investing in crypto. Citadel Securities wants to make markets with crypto, off-exchange. This is a strong, correlating move.

This is genius. Make shorting GameStop, essentially shorting your own exchange. This shifts short incentives. They may just want to transition to a net long position, which makes sense. We did see them setting up pensions to hold their bags. If they have even more incentive to go long, that only strengthens GameStop. I hope more pensioners catch wind of all this and go long too. It really will be up to many of us, especially when, to fix the problems SHF will cause.

WTF I love FTX now.

No but seriously, this is huge. They've burst on the crypto scene relatively recently and do big marketing during sporting events with ads featuring Steph Curry.

This is BULLISH!

Doesn't FTX do tokenized stocks?

It would seem so.

I've never used FTX. I've stuck with Coinbase for my crypto needs since I'm not a fan of doing KYC all over the place. Although now I might reconsider to help the cause lol.

Seems to me... that GME is already tokenized.

https://ftx.com/trade/GME/USD

Yeah gme has been a token on FTX for over a year now

https://ftx.com/trade/GME/USD

HOLY FUCK THAT'S COOL. This means we have a concrete reason to advocate for crypto regulation that benefits individual investors.

"You cannot trade tokenized stocks on FTX from any of the banned jurisdictions, including the United States. Note that the set of allowed jurisdictions is subject to change."
Sauce: FTX page on tokenized stocks: https://help.ftx.com/hc/en-us/articles/360051229472-Equities

And from another page: "Note: US users cannot trade on FTX, but residents of the United States can trade on FTX.US"

players have digital assets in their GameStop wallet that they can sell on GameStop's NFT marketplace for loopring layer 2 Ethereum.

an off-ramp is a service that trades / converts the cryptocurrency into fiat currency for example USD.

What's better is that with FTX they could use cryto to buy stocks.

Hmm. Isn't FTX the one that has a tokenized GME stock for trade on their website?

Edited

yes. they started it back in february 2021..

but i would prefer a nft-stock, not just an iou tokenized stock..

People should also know that the team runnig/owning FTX are heavy in keeping stablecoins afloat. Which really seems to have its shadow workings. Apart from the this new token stuff, they have a ton of ETF knowledge. I wouldn't cheer too soon 👀🤔🤷🏻

Not all stablecoins are created equal. We all know Tether is an egg roll full of dogshit dipped in gutter oil, but there are some like USDC that do back appropriately with real assets. The basic idea of stablecoins, to ride out market swings without incurring a cash out event, is reasonable.

They also got into some hot water with some of their marketing regarding their platform being FDIC insured, which was alleged to be misrepresentative since cryptocurrency is not an insured asset.

this is a good thing. RC just flipped the script on citadel. This major partnership means that GME doing well is also very good for FTX. So now there is a dilemma for citadel, maintaining a bearish/short position on GME is hard to explain when citadel is on of the primary investors in FTX since GME failing would not be god for FTX.

I don’t remember it being super credible DD, maybe speculation by that OP but I was surprised when I heard about FTX on the call.

Yupp. A few of the higher comments have the linked DD

So it sounds like GameStop is the official retailer of FTX. Wonder if that means you will be able to purchase a gift card and use that card to load up money on the exchange, and they will have an easy on-ramp onto the GameStop wallet? Or better yet, maybe you purchase an ftx gift card, open the GameStop wallet, select load gift card, and ftx deposits the corresponding ETH in your wallet (which you can use in the marketplace).

I used to be a part of a crypto team and one of the most challenging aspects of crypto is converting dollars (fiat) to crypto. Exchanges make the process much easier.
