The newly promoted teams are straight up not having a good time.

Everton will probably start up this year without trouble compared to the last couple of years.

u/feedthebear avatar

Newly promoted usually do ok at the start of the season and struggle as the season goes on. But they're in trouble already.

u/liverpool3 avatar

Luton and Sheffield look dire. Burnley not much better but i reckon they have the best chance to stay up out of the three

u/ShimeBD avatar

Burnley have had very hard fixtures so far i think they get much better as the season goes on

u/ALaccountant avatar

Sheffield United

Everyone played up Luton's fairy tale but its clear they are far out of their league .Sheffield don't look any better than last time they were here . These teams are actually making Everton look decent

The entire consensus was that it was awesome Luton got promoted for prestige and financial reasons, but they were 100% going down.

more replies More replies

The hype was about promotion imo, nobody thought they would do well in EPL. Just enjoy the money, build your infrastructure, invest in things the club can use for generations to come and you are good. Keeping a decent chunk of your squad with a few additions is probably enough to come back up anyway. And to be fair I kinda like their approach. Make Luton great - EPL can go fuck themselves, nobody promised them a competitive team haha.

Avoiding the drop this season is not about hitting 40ish points, its about being less shit than 3 other teams.

We had three of us promoted teams stay up last season. Could be three promoted going down this one instead.

u/basmati-rixe avatar

Tbf Luton were always favourites to go down, they are by every metric outmatched in the PL. Burnley have had a horrible schedule, can’t judge them. Sheffield United I’ve not seen much of tbh. Forest spent over £100m, Fulham spent brilliantly and already had pieces that could do it in the Prem, Bournemouth were the only team that everyone saw going down.

u/Sir_Muktadir avatar

Luton feels like a team that kinda just want to enjoy the occasion of being in the premier league and enjoy themselves with the idea of preparing life in the championship next season. Their signings are upper tier championship level signings by the most part and tbh their team was relatively weak for championship standards so they really would have had to overhaul the entire team to have a strong chance of survival.

Seems like their end goal is to get the prem money, prepare for relegation and hope to get promoted the next season with a much stronger base squad instead of blowing their cash on players that will most likely leave should they relegated and basically be stuck on step one again.

Well, no one expected a thing from Luton as they were ultra-underdogs even for Championship but Burnley and Sheffield are more used to be in this scene so it is embarrasing on their side.

We're having a fucking great time mate, we've gone toe-to-toe with our three last oppositions. This is all we wanted as fans this season, to see our team play, and be competitive against, top opposition once more after years and years of absolute shite and financial turmoil.

Chelsea away to Luton is going to be the funniest match of the season

What happens when the stoppable force meets the moveable object

Watch it end up being some kind of 4-3 banger

u/NotASalamanderBoi avatar

With a last second goal from Luton

u/Reach_Reclaimer avatar

Nah last second goal from Chelsea to try and save face and make it 4-1 to luton

Luton scoring 4 in one match would be something, they don’t even have 4 this season yet lol

Chelsea are lucky that this is the worst trio of promoted teams in a long time.

Yeah they should stay in the Prem with the level they show.

Even our goals scored to conceded ratio is 3:1

You play 3-1 football. Salt of the earth, punch the clock, consistent 1-goal conceded PL. You let one in, guess what? You'll score three, too. But don't get too excited or let it go to your head. No clean sheets here, no sir. That's hubris, which this burning-red, hard working Merseyside team doesn't have. A few goals in a row, these guys, true to form, will balance it out with by conceding a goal. Yes sir, that's your 2023 Liverpool. A good, honest 3-1 Premier League team.

Feels like some fresh pasta this.

But they are Chelsea. They finished 12th last year while City finished 1st. Yes they have the name but in any other season this is like comparing city's and palace's form and saying city is doing much better well obviously they're also a much better so why even bother comparing. And Palace actually finished above Chelsea last season to make things worse

Absolutely amazing week for us. Basically every result was what we would've wanted plus an amazing performance against Brentford with DCL looking sharp again

u/RyanMc37_ avatar

Hopefully starting a bit of a gap from Wolves (vs Man City) and Bournemouth (vs Arsenal) next week. Then we're playing Bournemouth at home after that. With Wolves playing Villa that week we could get another very nice set of results our way.

Let's not take anything against Luton for granted. It would be so "Everton that" to go away to Brentford and dominate and then lose the statistically easiest fixture of the season.

u/GoodLuckFellowEE avatar

If you remove all of Brighton's goals scored then they've yet to score a goal all season

This guy stats.

Edited

Yeah I mean if you adjust Brighton's tally down to the league average and take away the outliers, you'll see that they're not all that special.

What does this tell us?

It tells us that Brighton's perceived success in the league is largely inflated by unsustainable, wildly outlier stats in these recent games as perceived elite talent. When you adjust for the future by bringing down their outlier stats, Brighton regresses heavily to a slightly above average goalscoring form of a 2022-23 Crystal Palace or Chelsea

u/Neuroxex avatar

I honestly really hope not, he is still easily one of the best in the world but I’m not sure if FSG would offer him another extension

More replies

I might be delusional, but if we put on a title challenge and add a couple of better players and look competitive for CL next season, he will stay. He’s shown that he’s really competitive and cares about titles. And he’s still in his prime.

It's not about us looking attractive to Salah in a bid to make him stay. I don't think FSG will be willing to offer him an extension on even his current terms and would rather cash in, even though most of the fans want him to retire here.

u/d-ronthegreat avatar

Even if we could pay him silly money for just like two more years it’d be so worth it

u/doubleoeck1234 avatar

Saudis offered 150M for him this summer, they'll be back next summer and we'll probably not get a chance to sell him for that high a price again.

I think selling Salah and using the money on a world class dm, a cb and a salah replacement is the best option for us.

You'd need all that for world class DM alone judging by recent prices

u/BadBehaviour613 avatar

Crazy there are still 4 unbeaten teams

In 2018-19, there were 3 unbeaten teams for 12 games. City, Liverpool and Chelsea and all were right next to each other on the table. Of course City and Liverpool ended with 98 and 97 points respectively while Chelsea ended with..... 72 points in 3rd just one ahead of Spurs in 4th and 2 ahead of Arsenal in 5th. They did something similar in 21/22 when they were in the title race till december with the other 2 only to end 3rd with 74 points while City and Pool got 93 and 92 respectively. So yes early season form can be deceiving in fact half season form can be as well

u/Pamplemouse04 avatar

Oh yeah I forgot that Chelsea were top around Xmas that year (21/22). That really was the beginning of their demise. From cl winners to top at Xmas to 14th in 2023

I'm a little frustrated. Before the season we got three really interesting teams promoted to Premier League. Totally new Burnley under Kompany that played magnificient football in Championship, more experienced Sheffield that returned after two years and Luton Town, fresh blood. In my eyes it was promising.

Now it seems that we have three weakest promoted teams in history. I hope at least one of them will get up soon :/

[deleted]
[deleted]

Burnley have played City, United, Spurs, Forest, and Villa. They have had a very tough start to the season, and got a result where it mattered, a draw against Forest. I think it’s still too soon to write them off just yet

u/Youutternincompoop avatar

Still only 6 games in long ways to go. Burnley will find their form I think

Three weakest promoted sides in history you are joking mate. Derby County 2007 does not exist? There have been worse promoted teams and we are only 6 games in for fuck's sake. The same Sheffield Utd who received a drubbing today ran city the closest of anyone all season and city scored a last minute winner. They ran Spurs even closer and were leading until the 98th min before the collapse. Don't get the knives out so fast

More replies

by the end of their next fixtures Chelsea would be lucky to be finishing above 17th

So what I’m seeing is Liverpool finishing second and trailing by 1 or 2 points at the end of the season with City winning with an own goal from Paqueta near the 80th minute.

Also the inevitable signing of Paqueta from City a couple of months later.

Probably an unpopular opinion here, and believe me was very happy with the way we played yesterday, but I think Brentford would be a sneaky candidate for relegation this year if the newly promoted teams weren't so awful. For some reason I can really see the wheels falling off for them soon; I think teams are finally catching onto their playstyle and things will get nervy for them until Toney is back (if they decide to keep him at all).

This season I don't think so, its hard to see any team doing a Leicester again, but next season once they lose some more quality players without replacing then like raya I could see them dropping fast

u/Lethiun avatar
