NFL Officiating
Same circumstance. Complete opposite call. One of these plays resulted in the QB being knocked out of the game. One of these plays was a 15 yard penalty. Not both.
NFL officiating is a joke.
I had Ben Roethlisberger’s livestream with Merril Hoge on during the game. Merril was part of the committee that helped set the rules regarding QB hits. He said the hit on Lawrence that was called is the perfect example of a play they’d show of how you’re supposed to hit a QB clean. And somehow it’s called by the ref standing a few feet away.
can you link me to that? sounds interesting, does ben do it for everygame?
He does a weekly podcast during the season & sporadically during the off-season. This was the first live stream during a game but they said they may try again. Link for the YouTube page below

Thank you!!
You not only CAN complain about more than one thing, but there’s certainly more than one thing wrong with this team and there were numerous absolutely horrible examples of officiating in this game to go along with it. Any combination of alternate outcomes could have swung this game in either direction.
I’m going to say this as much as it hurts to actually say it after yet another afternoon spent pacing watching this shitshow on turf. I root for Kenny and ultimately think he will be a great QB in the league. He probably won us a few this year on his sheer will after being convincingly mediocre and happy-footed in the pocket. He’s made his share of mistakes and I’m gutted that he’s out when he’s one of the few on the O side that go at full speed and seem to be trying. Kenny, Jaylen. George and Boz have shown up in recent weeks and have given me hope but KP isn’t going to remain healthy with this line and with the schemes Canada is calling His pocket awareness needs time but he has moxy and I like his tenacity when the chips are down
The chips are down
There should be more of an outcry from others in the NFL community about the officiating. The announcers were also a joke And I’m sorry but you can’t not show a game determining penalty on a successful field goal during the game and not have to answer for it I’m constantly reminded how other NFL quarterbacks are given this level of protection on debatable calks when it comes to roughing And it’s okay to call holding against Watt Just because he’s super human doesn’t mean teams can grab him in headlock week over week
This is the kind of shit that loses this sport fans
Ian was a damn joke. He was riding the Jags hard.
Was Ian the one differentiating the calls because one was weight-bearing and the other wasn't?
Nah, that was the color guy. Don't remember his name but he infuriates me whenever I hear him bc he's on madden and even more repetitive and uninteresting there than irl
this has nothing to do with the outcome of the game. we aren’t upset by this no-call because we lost. the reason we’re mad is because this took him out the game, this is why that penalty exists is to reduce QB injuries and to have a BLATANT RTP and not call it like this is absolutely disgusting
I love listening to music.
No body weight there, no sir
Only partial body weight. It makes it super ok.
Hope kennys ok
In the tackle of Lawrence the ball was still in his hands right at the last moment and the defender would not know it it was gone
In the tackle of Kenny the defender knew it was gone because it practically hit him in the face after which he continued to not only continue the tackle but also drive him into the ground
Officiating was bad. No doubt went way of jags. But it wasn’t bad enough where good teams couldn’t over come it. This Steelers team just isn’t good enough
I can't say the defense is not good. Those poor guys are constantly on the field after our 3 and outs, and still make interceptions and sacks.
I agree with this. As bad as the refs were if the Steelers execute better (The first pass of the game and the miss between Kenny/Diontae when the latter was wide open in the end zone are 2 big examples) the can win this game. Imo the lack of execution has been a bigger hindrance to this team than MC play calling as far the the offensive production goes.
Agree I just want consistency in the officiating. Call it or not both those plays were similar enough they shld be treated the same.
Jags fan here not coming on peace, but the NFL fucked up with all these rules about RTP. It’s just another thiccy tacky way for zebras to control the game. Like how there is essentially holding on every play, (both in the trenches and outside with cbs an safeties) the spot of the ball is done off of humans eye and then precisely measured with a chain, and shit like taunting last year. The NFL is turning into the NBA with how how much power they are giving to the refs.
Game is a fucking joke. And flags so it can fucking die already.
If one was RTP, then they both are. Imo neither of these were RTP. Just basic tackles. The NFL refs are worse than garbage.
I stopped watching games a long time ago. It’s just pro wrestling with helmets
Steelers scored 10 points yet had the D gift them 3 turnovers. Yes, the refs were sucky but you can't blame them for why the Steelers lost.
But OP never said that was the reason the Steelers lost the game.
His argument about this being a bad call isn't wrong.
You can complain about more than one thing
Plenty of reasons why they lost. But this is just a beautiful example of inconsistent officiating that seems to becoming more and more common.
This seems like the worse year for the refs in a long time. NFL needs to fix it.
I'm 68. I've been hearing about how referees and umpires suck for as long as I can remember. The big difference between now and back in the 1960's? Nobody had instant replay and there was no such thing as a coaches challenge, review booth, etc. All they had was the ability to bitch.
Both things can be true
Exactly
The nfl has navigated to a unique position such that technically illegal acts happen every single play. And when they happen every play, the refs can call any penalty almost any time
Even the announcers said "his full body weight wasn't on him, it was just shoulder to shoulder". Delusional and really shows the bias the media has for praising the Jags
Yes soft rigging is real and yes it's become more prevalent and obvious lately. All about the $ sadly.
