Officiating is making games around the NFL almost unwatchable

I understand I'm beating a dead horse, but man, it feels like it has just been awful this year

Zebras ruining the game

To be clear - the Steelers offense makes the game unwatchable enough on its own, but I see the same issue for other teams around the league

And somehow it got worse since I made the original post.

No call RTP against Kenny. The inconsistency there.

Fucking offensive offsides on a FG. Unreal

What reason did they give for the 10 second run off? Was it bc he fumbled out of bounds?

Play ruled out of bounds with no fumble but turned into a fumble after review = automatic 10 second runoff

OK, thank you. At least ONE of their calls have made sense then. The non call on the play kenny got hit is a joke, at least after they called it on us when Lawrence had literally just released the ball.

Fumbling out of bounds doesn’t stop the clock. The call changed from a stopped clock to a running clock, which means a runoff

Thank you

Looked like his foot was out of bonds b4 the fumble IMO

This was the worst NFL officiating I've ever seen. With that said, we still probably lose but I never know

It’s my firm tinfoil hat theory that current levels of refball are a direct result of the nfl’s addiction to gambling revenue

It doesn't even matter if it is or isn't. Opening your league up to gambling automatically invites scepticism.

"nfl is an entertainment business not a sports league" coming next

What about money corrupts? With the amount of money the NFL deals with, there's almost a zero chance that it isn't fixed in some way.

im in agreement with you. my quote was what they said about wrestling when people started saying it was rigged

Lmfao there'll always be an excuse

this argument makes no sense

How does it not make sense? As soon as you can net money on something, its integrity comes into question. How many times throughout history do humans have to prove that they're greedy before people catch on?

i don’t think you understand that the NFL hires other companies to track every referee and and those related to them to make sure there’s no unusual gambling wins. this stuff is monitored by the fucking government too. it’s incredibly illegal 😂

i’ll wait for you tin foil hat wearers to actually find a single sliver of evidence before i even consider it a remote possibility

This isn’t a tinfoil hat theory it’s very plausible. It was plausible before sportsbooks/daily fantasy just from a marketing standpoint.

anyone who believes this is so unbelievably stupid i can’t even put it into words.

The way they are calling this game you'd have to question whether the refs have money on the Jags

This just keeps getting worse and worse. Holy hell.

Like wtf, these zebras are wild

What they doin?

And now you have multiple officials giving a different ruling on the field. Amateur hour.

But please don’t show us the replay and violation. Just show us the players and coaches reactions. Maybe toss in the fan’s reaction and the owners. Just show us the fucking replay. I truly believe the often don’t show the replay because they know the refs suck.

My guess is from the crowd chanting and knowing the refs are blowing calls and everyone is already pissed off about it, they assume (probably rightly) showing a replay of the bullshit call would only piss people off more, so they play it off and don't.

That or there was literally no foul to show to back up the refs or at least make it look like a controversial call where there was a small world in where it made sense to call.

u/brad1041 avatar

I agree, I’m not someone who believes everyone is against us but please show us. They really are making it less enjoyable and questionable with their poor coverage. If it’s a good call we can agree and move on. If it’s a shit call it needs to be called out.

Yea, any penalty should show the replay in my opinion. There's always a pause in the game afterward so there is no reason not to.

I swear it feels like I’m the officiating rule book RTP is defined as “when you feel like it” or these fucksticks have some NFL exec chirping in their ear all game

Black and gold qbs actually can't draw an RTP. It's in the rule book.

National Ref League

And….another one

This ref could not hurry to call it down by contact fast enough.

More apt to believe lately that the officiating is more dictated by the betting lines than the rule book.

u/Only_Battle_7459 avatar

There are too many rules, and too many that are discretionary. Every other play is just a penalty.

They've ruined the game.

exactly. everyone is calling rigged but it’s just that the rules are so subjective and all judgement calls

The commissioner is ruining the game.

u/Temporal_Enigma avatar

That's why I proudly illegally stream. Fuck ad revenue for this crooked league

u/JoelK2185 avatar

It’s been this way for a while. Game is over officiated, too many rules, refs possibly point shaving, etc.

Falling out of love with the NFL. Feeling it more this year than ever.

Baaaad calls today

u/Invisible_Pony avatar

They get worse every year too.

I'm done watching the NFL after the first half today. When they announce procedures to hold refs accountable I'll reconsider. Until then my time and money are no longer theirs.

you’ll be back next week

The couple different subscriptions that I cancelled today after being 100% active for 15+ years without interruption beg to differ. What a wonderful original comment though, right up there with Canada's playbook.

refs are just as bad as they were years ago, there’s just way more rules that complicate things and we have super fucking slo mo to dissect every call. don’t take sports this serious lol

Right and it hasn't improved and only gotten worse, so I'll control what I can (my money that goes to them and businesses related to them) until it does. If it never does it never does. I'm not watching a sport with integrity issues any longer, the refs are out of hand. If you think it hasn't gotten worse you're not paying attention.

I really hate complaining about refs but good lord…

Agree, there are too many penalties that can manipulate the outcome of the game. Pass interference, roughing the passer & targeting are at the top of the list.

Browns fan here, we were handed the game last week and calls were shit on both sides this week. You guys also had terrible refs the past 2 weeks

Player safety initiative has ruined football. I understand why it started, but collisions and violence are parts of the game. Players know what they’ve signed up for. The game will never be safe.

I’m 30 and have seen sacking the qb too hard become a penalty. Receivers are always defenseless. It’s just getting too soft.

This might be a hot take but with flag football becoming and Olympic sport I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if tackle football as we know stopped existing in my lifetime.

Add in the Steelers offense and this game is fully unwatchable. I'll tune in for the 4th quarter to see if it gets interesting then.

But it allows for so many more commercials

No no This was my fault. I added these numbers to my helmets before the game. Kenny got hurt. Diontae had a bad game and got hurt. Bozgod had points stolen from him.

I’m so so so sorry guys.

The replacement refs were what ten years ago? I feel like I’ve heard this narrative around the nfl since that and even before…it’s the biggest game so we’ll keep watching but it’s very clearly rigged. Vegas has only made it worse with how Sportsbooks are in bed with nfl espn etc.
