Game Thread
The 2018 NBA awards will be revealed on Monday night at 9:00 p.m. ET in Santa Monica, California, a full 17 days after the Finals wrapped up. It’s finally time we learn who’s won the MVP, Most Improved Player, Defensive Player of the Year and more.
This is the second year the event has been held. Last year Drake hosted, and this time around, Anthony Anderson will take the spotlight. Travis Scott is also scheduled to perform.
Here’s each award, and the three finalists up for it:

This year, the league also added fan-voted categories to accompany the main awards. You can vote for the Play of the Year here.
Nominees include LeBron James’ fadeaway buzzer-beater over the Timberwolves, his no-look pass to Ante Zizic, Giannis Anteotokounmpo’s alley-oop over Tim Hardaway Jr.’s head, Anthony Davis’ block of Royce O’Neale’s dunk and Kyrie Irving’s unreal handles to get by Malcolm Brogdon.
Those nominees beat out their competition in each category (Dunk of the Year, Assist of the Year, etc.) to advance to the Play of the Year nominee pool. In addition, Russell Westbrook won Best Style.

Harden may not be the best player but the Rockets were winning a lot more games than the Cavs while also being in a tougher conference than Cleveland.

Harden took his team to more wins in a tougher conference through the regular season and got a lot closer to beating than Warriors considering the Cavs couldn’t win a game against them.

How anybody is arguing that Harden didn't deserve it is beyond me. He absolutely deserved it. If you wanna argue that LeBron deserved it too, then that's fair, but LeBron's had 4 and Harden earned the hell out of this one. This was Hardens year all year.
The thing that I don't like about MVP awards is that eventually they end up going to the 2nd best player in the league at a given time. I don't think that many people are going to argue that Lebron is not the best player in the world, but he hasnt won MVP since 2013, and he has only gotten better since then. At this point Lebron would literally have to average a quadurple double to win another
Yeah but I think you should be judged on what you did that year and not be punished for being great other years. Harden definitely a contender but I feel LeBron fit the definition of MVP better with a higher fgp, rebounds, minutes, and games played.

The Cavs weren't in the running to win MVP. This is an individual award, not a team one.
Where your team ends up has always mattered. Being the best player on a team that topped the West is much more impressive than being the best player on a team that finished 4th in the east.

What do you expect from Harden? This show was corny AF and just done for $$$. He knew it was his and this probably felt like a present day afterthought. If this was happening in the heat of the moment he'd have better things to say off the top of his head. Sure he could have prepared for a speech, but he didn't and the situation produced its evidential results.

It's legit. Harden deserves the MVP as much as Ben Simmons deserves rookie of the year, if you base it just on the regular season like it's supposed to be. If you based it on finals however Lebron deserves MVP and Mitchell deserves rookie. Harden wasn't even the MVP of his own team in the finals and Mitchell was a star.

There needs to be a separate “offensive player of the year” award. Since that’s pretty much what MVP has become. People like Kawhi and Davis have literally no chance at MVP even though they are deserving.
Being able to create offense for yourself and your team is the most valuable skill in the league.
If a player can combine his defensive prowess with enough of his offense, he will get it.
