Qualification structure

The new route to the Diploma in Corporate Finance consists of three on-demand exams and one narrative exam. The three new on-demand exams provide a flexible progression route, with each building upon the last in terms of required study hours and complexity.

The existing final unit, Corporate Finance Strategy and Advice is an open book narrative exam that requires candidates to have a detailed understanding of issues, disciplines, regulations and strategies involved in advising on and implementing companies’ corporate finance objectives.

The Diploma in Corporate Finance is regulated by Ofqual as the CISI level 6 Diploma in Corporate Finance. On the European Qualifications Framework, this equates to a level 6 qualification.

Total Qualification Time – 537 hours

The total qualification time (TQT) of this qualification is 537 hours. TQT is an estimate of the number of hours that a typical candidate might reasonably spend achieving the qualification. This will vary depending on your previous experience and include any formal study as well as self-study and assessment time.

Transitional arrangements

The route to the Diploma in Corporate Finance has recently been revised, with three on-demand exams replacing a Level 6 Corporate Finance Techniques and Theory (CFTT) narrative paper from summer 2024.

Candidates who achieve, or who have already achieved, the current CFTT exam will have until the December 2025 session to sit and pass the Corporate Finance Strategy and Advice (CFSA) exam and complete the CISI level 6 Diploma in Corporate Finance.

After the December 2025 sitting of CFSA candidates will only be able to achieve the CISI level 6 Diploma in Corporate Finance by passing the three new exams and CFSA. If you have any questions, please contact our Customer Support Team.

Examination and Study materials

The Financial Reporting and Financial Statements Analysis, Sources of Finance, Capital Investments and Valuations and Mergers & Acquisitions and Market Regulations examinations are on-demand closed book examinations.

The Corporate Finance Strategy and Advice examination is an open book examination. You are permitted to bring in texts, articles and notes of any kind. It is your responsibility to bring any material needed and any such texts brought into the examination venue should be in hard copy only.
