Why?
Alien covenant, Prometheus, exodus: gods and kings, the counselor, Robin Hood. Aside from the Martian (americas greatest comedy to date) his team record for the last 8 years directing has been turd after turd after turd.
He's still a very good director, he's just got worse at choosing scripts.
I'm pretty sure he had a lot of different types of creative control on his alien movies.
Regardless, if you're constantly making absolutely shit movies you should stop, he's proven no one else will stop him, so it looks like it's up to one of us!
Besides, as a director he gets to pick his script. As director he reaps all the reward if it's great and takes all the responsibility if it sucks
