Why he’s dressed like Gilligan?

He died at a golf course.

He died on the property of this golf course after having a massive heart attack after dinner that very evening

You should post this on r/lastimages

Will do thank you! There really is a subreddit for anything huh?

Absolutely.

He used to host a golf tournament every year; the Bing Crosby Clambake. It now goes by the name of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and it's one of the bigger tournaments on the PGA Tour. Crosby was very in with the golf community back in the day.

All the physical abuse he inflicted on his kids must've greatly helped his swing.

A lot of celebrity kids have claimed abuse via books after their parents died. They made a lot of money off the books and, in nearly every case (including with Bing’s son), the siblings disputed the claims. The truth probably lies somewhere in between.

*in between beating his children

"I like to hit 'em with a tube sock filled with sweet, sweet valencia oranges. It won't leave a bruise, but will let 'em know you mean business."

u/hoyle_mcpoyle avatar

Except that's actually bullshit and it never happened. It was made up by one of his kids to sell books. It sucks that this has just become a fact for people

u/DWright_5 avatar

How do you know that? There's actually quite a bit of evidence.

u/hoyle_mcpoyle avatar

His other children refuted the claims and he admitted that the publishers encouraged him to embellish as much as possible

u/galwegian avatar

I saw a recent Bing documentary and in it the son that claimed he was beaten by Bing recanted it all saying his book publisher pushed him into saying it. it's a great doc. Bing was one of the first to realize the power of amplification meant he didn't have to shout. He was Michael Jackson level successful in his day. Movies, music, TV.

Two of the sons by his first marriage wound up as suicides I believe. It was the oldest son Gary [who died of cancer] that wrote a kind of 'Daddy Dearest' about Bing titled 'Going My Own Way'.

As far as many people who grew up in the 1960s & 70s were concerned, the only 'family' Bing had was the one by his second much younger wife Kathryn who appeared on his annual Christmas TV specials. Bing had three kids with Kathryn -- two sons and his only daughter Mary Frances. Kathryn was actually a little bit younger than Gary Crosby.

A few of Bing Children committed suicide, none of us here know what really happened.

Bings love of golf is why we had magnetic tape recording.

No really, he basically paid for its practical development so he could play golf whenever he wanted and didn’t have to in to do the shows live.

Probably at the clam bake.

Bing was also a long time pot enthusiast, was he not?

Indeed. Turned on by Hoagy Carmichael at a jazz club in Chicago while digging Louie Armstrong back in the 20’s.

Shit human being

The son that claimed abuse recanted. He said his publishers encouraged him to exaggerate to sell more copies.

Gotta love all the negativity

Well honestly, he was a shit human being.

He really wasn’t. His son recanted his abuse claims made in his tell-all book.

I hear he kept the same form when he was swinging it at his kids.

I don’t think anyone on this sub likes this guy as a human lol. No positive comment as of yet.

No one sings White Christmas better. There. You happy now?

Good enough lol

Yes they do… David Bowie 🤩

That was a classic. Thanks for the memory.

I didn’t really know about him as a person. I like his singing. And where do I even attempt to speak for everyone lol? I just said there was not one positive comment (when I wrote my reply) which was a fact.

Berate me, by all means, but don’t put words in my mouth lol.

Brother, my apologies. I completely misread your last comment & what you were actually saying & my response was COMPLETELY douche-y & inappropriate. My apologies, for real. I'm an ass; forget all that.

What a mean man he was.. his poor sons may they RIP

His son recanted what he wrote in that book. He said his publisher pushed to exaggerate. Which goes along with the other sons disputing the abuse claims.

playing golf doesnt make you cool, it makes you lame

It makes you old.

u/DWright_5 avatar

That's ridiculous. It's about the only sport you can keep playing late into old age. Makes you old? That's 100% wrong. It helps keep you young.

It was supposed to be sarcasm

Literally right before he died. Died after the round

No, he died a few hours later

Ping Crosby

He must have had a low handicap, that set up is great.

Considering he beat a professional golfer and the owner of a gold club I assume he was quite skilled.
